Suncorp is officially launching a high-tech Disaster Management Centre (DMC) in Brisbane today. The firm’s media release described the Centre as “state-of-the-art.”
The release said the DMC has a nine-metre-wide control screen that integrates data, realtime weather alerts, geospatial mapping, satellite and aerial imagery, artificial intelligence (AI) and emergency news feeds.
“The DMC strengthens our capacity to proactively communicate and rapidly deploy our specialist customer support teams, builders and assessors with speed and urgency,” said CEO Steve Johnston (main picture above).
Johnston said the centre is a major leap forward in the company’s ability to deliver “best in class” disaster management.
“Importantly, we are sharing the DMC’s capabilities and insights with governments, industry, and emergency services to help drive better disaster preparedness and recovery for the wider community,” he said.
Johnston said the Centre’s design was informed by feedback from partners, including from the Queensland SES.
The insurer said it is also adding a fleet of five mobile disaster response hubs to scale up on-the-ground presence during natural catastrophes.
The DMC, said the release, is part of Suncorp’s $25 million jobs and investment commitment to the Queensland Government following the sale of Suncorp Bank.
