Major car insurer Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) will join the Insurance Council of Australia's (ICA) townhalls for policyholders impacted by the catastrophic flooding in southeast Queensland from February to March 2022.
From June 13 to 27, the ICA will host in-person forums in nine locations in Queensland to provide an overview of the floods, claims process, complaints avenues, and other support. They will feature the ICA's overview of the claims process and presentations of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) and Legal Aid, before moving into a question-and-answer session with policyholders and then break-out meetings, where policyholders may speak with insurance company representatives.
RACQ – which confirmed in May that it had already settled more than 80% of motor claims related to the February/March flooding – announced that its representatives will join the in-person forums, except for Maryborough, to assist policyholders who want to discuss their claims or ask questions in-person.
“Following RACQ's member forums earlier this year, we're again eager to meet with our members face-to-face to support them through this challenging time,” said Trent Sayers, general manager of claims at RACQ.
ICA CEO Andrew Hall said the ICA and insurers are keen to hit the road in Queensland and meet with flood-impacted policyholders.
“The extreme weather throughout southeast Queensland has been relentless, and we know many people are feeling overwhelmed, especially given other factors such as shortages in building supplies and tradespeople,” Hall said in a previous statement. “The February/March event is Australia's costliest flood in history, and these forums help to give community members a better understanding of the claims process.”
