Insurance Australia Group (IAG), the parent company of NRMA Insurance, CGU, and WFI, is activating its assessment and claims teams to support policyholders in the face of expected severe weather across eastern Australia.
Forecasts indicate a significant low-pressure system developing within the next few days, likely to result in intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and potential flooding in areas of south-east Queensland and along the New South Wales coastline.
According to IAG major events response manager Julia Attard, IAG has coordinated with its regional building partners to carry out urgent repair work to safeguard properties as soon as weather conditions allow. The group has also increased the number of claims consultants available to expedite assistance to affected customers.
“Customers can also lodge their claims online via the NRMA Insurance app, website, or the CGU and WFI websites, or you can call your insurer,” she said.
IAG executive manager claims Natalie Major highlighted the need for safety during the storm season.
“We encourage everyone to monitor weather alerts, adhere to the advice and directions of the emergency authorities,” she said. “When a storm is approaching, take precautions to secure or remove loose objects in your yard, for example, outdoor furniture. Avoid unnecessary travel during a storm and never drive through floodwaters as the consequences can be tragic.”
IAG, which was among the insurance companies that addressed parliamentary inquiry on 2022 flood responses, has promised to continue providing updates on the evolving weather situation and the assistance being extended to customers and affected communities.
