A global multi-line insurer has expanded its Singapore-based commercial insurance hub with two new appointments for its Asia-Pacific property and energy divisions.
John McCully will join
Zurich’s Singapore team as head of property, energy and technical risk (PET), while Alex Howell was tapped as the new line of business head for downstream energy.

McCully, current head of property and engineering for Zurich Australia's general insurance business, will commence his APAC role on Jan. 1. Howell, meanwhile, will join Zurich from
Swiss Re, where he was most recently head of property Southeast Asia. Howell will also assume his new role on Jan. 1. As head of Zurich's downstream energy risk underwriting team across APAC, Howell will report directly to McCully.
“Both appointments extend the depth of specialty industry experience in our Singapore team,” said Reg Peacock, CEO at Zurich Singapore. “Property and energy are growth sectors for us in Singapore and the region, and we see more clients seeking deep technical expertise in these areas.”
Head of commercial lines for APAC Chris Waterman said the new appointments, which follow the appointment of Anish Jadav as chief underwriting officer for Zurich's commercial business last month, “will build on and compliment Zurich’s existing commercial underwriting capabilities in property and onshore energy risks across the region.”
