Despite a challenging year, Abbie Wilson, director of National Insurance Brokers, overcame unprecedented challenges earning Insurance Business Australia’s (IB) latest Elite Brokers award.
Wilson (pictured), who goes by the title “Your Trusted Broker” at National Insurance Brokers, shared with IB that the past year had been demanding and challenging due to delays in response time, the increasing complexity of claims, and pandemic-related restrictions’ impacts on mental health. However, these challenges pushed Wilson to grow.
“It has made me grow and develop even more as a person as I’ve been faced with the same challenges as my clients – the unknown,” she told IB.
When asked about how she had overcome the challenges last year, Wilson said having great communication, including the occasional banter, with her clients helped her build trust and loyalty despite the challenging market in Australia.
“We’re still experiencing premium increases, which have led me to decrease my own income just so my clients can still afford the most adequate insurance coverage. There is no requirement for me to reduce my income; I purely do this as a way to support my clients,” she said.
She further explained that not everyone will like the insurance industry, so insurance professionals must find new ways to rise above any negativity and continue to promote their services, including what insurance and insurance brokers can do for their clients.
“I believe I may have been chosen for [the IB Elite Brokers award for 2022] because I have proven beyond doubt that I am the trusted advisor that my clients require,” she said. “It most definitely takes courage, patience, and persistence to be an Elite Broker, and everyone has the ability to become the next Elite Broker.”
