An initiative between Sparke Helmore Lawyers and Lloyd's Market Association (LMA) Under 35's Claims Group has provided six young insurance lawyers with a unique opportunity to immerse for a week of learning in London.
Partner Wes Rose, senior associates Laura Rush, Mark Sainsbury, James Clohesy, and Edward Osborne, and lawyer Josie Dempster comprised the first group sent by the specialist law firm to an immersion program with underwriters, brokers, and claims teams.
The group also had the chance to present on relevant insurance topics to more than 100 insurance professionals from around 40 insurers, as well as Lloyd's syndicates and broking houses in the historic Old Lloyd's Library. They also met with Lloyd's new chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown before the presentation.

"Our insurance group has strong ties with, and an ongoing commitment to, Lloyd's and the London market. We are privileged to have been able to offer this special learning experience to our firm's future leaders," said Chris Wood, Sparke Helmore's national commercial insurance group leader.
"We work with brokers and claims professionals in the London market regularly, so it was incredibly enlightening to get a deeper insight into their operations, the issues affecting their business and the wider London market," Rose said.
Rush said the event provided them with rich insights about the issues and challenges faced by the industry.
"To be able to share our intelligence on developments in the Australian market and how these could potentially impact their businesses opened up such a rich dialogue,” she said. “We discussed everything from cyber risks to developments in the building defects space, which is topical following the tragic Grenfell disaster."
