Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs) has announced a new president for its organisation.
Andrew Shepherd has stood down from the role at the head of the regional body and will be replaced by current Australasian vice president and sponsorship coordinator James Smorthwaite.
Smorthwaite, who currently works for
JLT in Sydney, was a unanimous nomination and was voted into the position last week by the YIPs Australasian management committee.
Shepherd, who stood down to pursue other opportunities in the client operations division of
Marsh, said that the organisation has grown under his three-year tenure.
“We now have branches in Tasmania and Canberra as well as having forged connections with organisations in Canada and London under the International Young Insurance Professionals Network,” Shepherd said.
Shepherd welcomed Smorthwaite to the role and said that the new president is passionate about the vision for the future direction of the young professional organisation.
Smorthwaite said that he hopes to continue to realise Shepherd’s vision for the organisation to turn YIPs into the premier advocate for young professionals in insurance and will “undertake new initiatives to attract and retain fresh talent in our industry”.
