Wotton + Kearney (W+K), a specialised insurance law firm, has continued its appointment spree this year, welcoming four senior lawyers to its property, construction, and energy team.
In June 2021, W+K announced 23 senior promotions in Australia and New Zealand, the largest group of senior lawyers ever promoted at one time in the firm's history. Last month, the firm appointed Cath Evans as its first chief operating officer (COO).
Now, Naraya Lamart (partner), Edward Burrell (special counsel), Rachel White (senior associate), and Jacinta Fox (senior associate) have joined the firm's preeminent property, construction, and energy team.
New partner Lamart (pictured above) joined the firm on October 18 to lead the firm's established marine and transport practice within the property, construction, and energy team.
Before joining W+K, Lamart worked with HFW and was based in Brisbane. Her experience spans casualty crisis management, ship arrests, judicial sales of vessels, cargo claims, marine insurance advisory work, logistics and chain of responsibility advisory network, and charterparty litigation and negotiation. She also has significant experience in insolvency in a shipping context and has worked on a range of cross-border transactions, including Incoterms, sales contracts and world trade, and sanctions issues.
Burrell will join W+K in Sydney on October 25. He has significant experience advising on some of Australia's largest infrastructure projects, having most recently worked in-house at Lendlease as a senior legal counsel. He is also an expert in defending property and construction professional indemnity matters, warranty and indemnity, product liability, and property damage claims.
White and Fox joined W+K in September as senior associates.
White joined the firm from Colin Biggers & Paisley and is known for her experience in property and construction professional indemnity. She also has significant experience in advising on coverage disputes and large-scale construction matters. Meanwhile, Fox joined from Lander & Rogers and specialises in commercial property subrogated recoveries.
Adam Chylek, W+K property, construction, and energy leader, commented: “Attracting senior and emerging talent across the breadth of our property, construction, and energy practice is a good indicator of the cohesion we've managed to build with key clients in these sectors over the last few years and complements the wide range of market-leading claims that the team is engaged on.”
W+K chief executive partner David Kearney added: “Our now seven-partner-strong team, led by Adam Chylek, offers the local and global insurance markets unrivalled expertise across the construction & infrastructure, power gen, mining, gas, renewables, rail, commercial and industrial property, and marine and transport sectors.”
