An expanding national law firm has further strengthened its insurance team with the appointment of a leading worker’s compensation lawyer to partner.
Barry.Nilsson., recently awarded as Professional Services Firm of the Year at the
ANZIIF Australian Insurance Industry Awards 2016, has appointed Mark Wiemers as partner to the firm’s Brisbane insurance practice.
Wiemers brings over 14 years of insurance law experience to the firm. He is acknowledged as a leading practitioner in Queensland − currently acting for four of the largest self-insurer corporates operating under the Queensland legislative scheme and was named
Leading Workplace Accident Insurance and Workcover Lawyer (defendant) by Doyle’s Guide.
Wiemers’s expertise is in representing and advising self-insurers, as well as in advising on dust disease-related claims made against self-insureds, and public liability and property damage claims on behalf of insurers, and corporates with significant deductibles.
Prior to Barry.Nilsson, Wiemer has worked for DibbsBarker, Ebsworth & Ebsworth, and James Byrne & Rudz.
Don Leembruggen, Barry.Nilsson managing partner, welcomed Wiemers to the firm, saying: “Mark Wiemers is a recognised industry leader in the profession, bringing particular expertise in representing self-insureds in the workers’ compensation space.”
“The appointment highlights our expanded insurance offering in response to client demand, while continuing our established corporate culture of client-focused service.”
Wiemers said he looked forward to working within a strong brand with a focus on delivering the best possible outcomes for clients: “Barry.Nilsson. is a market leader in the area of insurance law. This, combined with its strong cultural values, focus on the highest quality of client service and national growth plan, made the firm a very attractive proposition.”
Wiemers’s appointment is another move in Barry.Nilssons.’s ongoing expansionary efforts, which includes the opening of its Adelaide and Hobart offices earlier this year, as well as significant growth in its Sydney and Melbourne practices.
