More than 150 insurance claims have flooded RACQ in the first 24 hours since severe thunderstorms lashed Bundaberg on Tuesday, bringing wild winds, heavy rains, and 2cm hail stones.
The majority of claims logged by the motoring club and insurance provider were for homes damaged by high winds and falling debris.
“Damage in the area is still being assessed and we won’t know the full extent for several more days, but we’ve already received 167 claims for homes and motor vehicles damaged in the storm,” RACQ’s Kirsty Clinton said. She urged clients to contact RACQ as soon as possible, “no matter how big or small their game is.”
Clinton said the latest storm was the third major event Bundaberg locals had experienced so far this year – and the storm season for the region is just beginning.
“Unfortunately, these storms are the perfect reminder for people to get their homes prepared and have an emergency plan for your family if another big weather event hits,” she said.
