The Insurance Business Global 100 special report celebrates those who have made and continue to make an impact in the insurance industry across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia-Pacific, and the UK.
Among this year's Australia-based winners is Daniel Lukich, sales and strategic relationship manager at AAMC.
Lukich's current role caps a remarkable rise from his beginnings a few decades ago as a motor body repairer in a family business in Victoria, Australia. After gaining experience in insurance assessing, he focused on supply chain management, which became his area of specialty. He also developed skills and experience in the following areas:
“Taking some degree of career risk by embracing new opportunities as they emerged led me to join a UK-based TPA's entry into Australia in the early 2000s, which enabled me to build upon experiences gained in operational and supply chain management, but at a much broader level,” Lukich said in an interview with Insurance Business.
“I've worked with great organisations and some brilliant people and had direct involvement in establishing two international companies' footholds in the Australian market, both of which are successful and continue to thrive.”
Over the years, Lukich has adopted a collegiate attitude and fostered a network among his colleagues.
“In all my roles where I've had the opportunity and wherewithal to drive change, I've looked to bring people along the journey, coach and mentor colleagues that are reluctant to embrace change and be prepared to quickly change tack if ideas and initiatives seem to be failing,” he said.
As a senior member of the insurance industry, Lukich admitted to being less focused on his career advancement and more on supporting AAMC in raising their corporate profile in being viewed as Australia's subject matter expert in motor and refining service propositions to meet current and future requirements as technology advances in claims administration and motor car.
Reflecting on his insurance journey, Lukich said: “It's easy to focus on what's not working, the challenging situations, frustrating clients, needlessly complex procedures, unreasonable demands from customers, and so on; however, in reality, it's been a rewarding and satisfying career for me, especially as I can look back and recognise earlier activities with previous employers continuing to evolve.”
