Despite a myriad of challenges, the 12 winners of Insurance Business Australia's (IB) Brokers on Insurers 2022 awards distinguished themselves in various service capacities – with medals to prove it.
The winners were rated by brokers based on several categories:
The top three companies in every category received a gold, silver, or bronze medal. Among the winners, those with a combined average score from all categories were named “Insurer of the Year.”
One of IB's Insurers of the Year for 2022 is Berkley Insurance Australia (BIA), which received a medal in almost every category. So, what's the secret to BIA’s success and good relationships with brokers despite facing a myriad of challenges?
In an interview with IB, BIA chief executive officer (CEO) Tony Wheatley said the company's main priority is “providing the highest levels of service possible.”
“Everything we do is with this in mind,” said Wheatley. “The systems we implement, the people we hire, and the authority we provide to local underwriters are all designed to add to our service levels. We are also very conscious of removing red tape and process for process sake, allowing underwriters and claims managers to focus on the main game, which is providing service to our brokers and insureds.”
As part of its aim to provide the highest levels of service, BIA ensures its teams are accessible to partners, brokers, and clients.
“Whenever a broker has a matter that they wish to discuss, they are always welcome to phone anyone in their underwriting team and get an answer straight away. Always being there for their brokers means they can provide immediate support to their clients,” the IB team found.
BIA has also achieved a more streamlined approach to underwriting for clients, enabling brokers to obtain quick quotes, bind policies, and download documents through its secure platform, BindIT.
Of course, part of an outstanding insurance company is taking care of its clients. Wheatley said BIA's philosophy is “play fair, pay early” to ensure their clients and their reputations are properly protected.
“I am regularly told by our panel partners when I ask how BIA stacks up in comparison to other insurers in terms of our decision making, engagement, and responsiveness that the BIA claims team is quite unique in its level of engagement with claims made against our insureds,” Wheatley said. “This is what makes claims management timely in its execution.”
