Swiss Re stalwarts Mark Senkevics (pictured above) and Sharon Ooi (pictured below) are switching roles within the reinsurer’s Asia management team.
Sydney-based Senkevics – who has just resigned from the board of the Insurance Council of Australia – will be taking on Ooi’s post as head of property & casualty underwriting for APAC, while the latter will replace her colleague as Australia & New Zealand head. Effective in September, the changes will see Ooi relocate from Singapore to Australia.
“Sharon’s demonstrated client focus, deep industry knowledge across a wide range of markets, and more recently her experience leading our underwriting team across APAC positions her well to support our clients as they navigate these challenging times and then into the future,” noted Senkevics, who has led Swiss Re in Australia and New Zealand over the last decade.
Ooi, meanwhile, will continue to lead Swiss Re’s diversity and inclusion efforts across Asia-Pacific on top of her new remit. She has been with the firm since 2006.
Commenting on her upcoming position as head of Australia & New Zealand, Ooi stated: “These are big shoes to fill, and I want to thank Mark for handing over a business that is growing and solving our clients’ needs at their point of need. I am looking forward to the challenges and I hope to be able to play a small part in helping Australia become a more resilient place to live, work, and thrive.”
Swiss Re Asia chief executive Russell Higginbotham, who was “especially pleased” to make the announcement, expressed his confidence in the duo’s ability to help steer the business and its clients through what he described as unprecedented times.
“These appointees bring decades of experience into their new roles,” said Higginbotham. “But more importantly, what they bring is an ever-present desire to innovate to meet the challenges of today and the future.”
