Suncorp has welcomed a new program designed to help Brisbane homeowners better protect themselves and their properties from flooding.
Suncorp Insurance CEO Gary Dransfield said Brisbane City Council should be commended for its Flood Resilient Homes Program, which “aims to introduce smarter designs and practical retrofits for homeowners to minimise damage and reduce disruption to families living in high-risk flood areas.”
“This announcement supports the work we’ve been leading to help Queenslanders make their communities more resilient,” Dransfield said.
Dransfield said effective mitigation, including the right funding and government policies, “pays for itself” and could deliver better protection for many communities as well as reduced premiums.
“Suncorp has demonstrated that it will reward mitigation methods, including through our award-winning Cyclone Resilience Benefit,” Dransfield said. “Similarly, we will evaluate home improvements under the Flood Resilient Homes Program and adjust insurance premiums accordingly after consultation with the homeowner.”
Suncorp is a long-time partner and is an active member of the Queensland Flood Community of Practice.
