Insurance giant Suncorp has announced that it is now six weeks ahead of schedule on repairs for hail-damaged cars following the catastrophic hailstorms that hit on Dec. 20, as its small army of repairers in pop-up hubs have been working at a record pace over the past six months.
Suncorp, including its network of brands such as AAMI, GIO, and APIA, already repaired or paid more than 80% of cars, in six months, thanks to more than 270 technicians and support staff who have been working at the insurer’s dedicated pop-up hail repair sites across Sydney and the Central Coast.
“The hail storm caused more than $1 billion damage across the state, so six months on, we are still busy,” said Michael Miller, Suncorp head of claims. “The good news is our repairers are doing a great job, we are tracking ahead of schedule and we have the finish line in sight. Our goal was to have 80% of cars repaired by the end of July, so to achieve this six-weeks early means more customers are back on the road sooner. We are committed to working at this record pace until the very last customer drives home.”
Miller said the insurer managed the feat in partnership with hail specialists Australasian Hail Network and Wizard, as well as its dedicated network of hail repairers.
Suncorp is also ahead of schedule on repairs for hail-damaged homes, with more than 6,500 now complete and $94 million made in claims payments to home owners, builders, and suppliers.
“Our commitment was to have 80% of roof repairs commenced by end of April – which we achieved,” Miller said. “We now have more than 84% of all roof repairs either complete or underway, so we are making good progress.”
