The final donation figure exceeded Suncorp's goal of $1.9 million, thanks to 858 New Zealand participants who contributed $354,000 and 3,270 Australian fundraisers who contributed $1.94 million.
For this year's fundraising, Suncorp Australia teamed up with Tour de Cure, an Australian registered charity that supports people affected by cancer at all stages. Meanwhile, Suncorp New Zealand partnered with Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand and Cancer Research Trust New Zealand.
The 2023 Spirit to Cure fundraising saw “Sunchasers” participate in physical events across Australia and New Zealand – with the most popular being a 21-km walk held in multiple cities in Australia, where more than 2,640 Suncorp employees and sponsors took part in the event across various sites.
Meanwhile, 106 cyclists rode the streets of Byron, Gold Coast, and Brisbane to complete their challenge of a three-day, 300-km bike ride.
In response to the overwhelming support received from last year's Spirit to Cure fundraising, Suncorp expanded its fundraising activities and locations this year – including first-time walk events in Newcastle, Perth, and Adelaide. It also introduced a new challenge for Brisbane's runners, who ran 50 km around Suncorp Stadium in a relay fashion individually or with teammates.
In other news, Suncorp presented an award to the best State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers in Queensland in September.
