Specialist travel insurer Cover-More has appointed Andrew Byrne as Group chief operating officer, it has been announced.
Byrne joins the Australian insurer from international giant
AIG, where he is currently senior regional vice president APAC personal lines, based in Shanghai.
With experience at some of Australia’s leading insurers, including positons of general manager, COO and CEO at
Suncorp Metway, NRMA and
Allianz Australia, Byrne joins with nearly 30 years’ experience both at home and abroad.
Peter Edwards, Cover-More Group CEO, said that it was Byrne’s considerable experience which led him to the role as the business looks to grow its international footprint.
“The considerable depth of Andrew Byrne’s experience will further enhance Cover-More’s ability to capitalise on the global expansion opportunities, particularly in the United States that we announced to the market at our AGM in November 2015,” Edwards said.
John Murphy, current COO of the business, will continue in his role until Byrne joins the business on 1 March.
“John Murphy has prepared Cover-More’s business and operational infrastructure to a point where we are ready for our next phase of global growth and we are indebted to him for his efforts,” Edwards continued.
Byrne will relocate to Sydney for the role.
