The State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) of New South Wales has welcomed Adam Dent as its new chief executive. He takes on the role two months after the regulatory body announced his appointment.
In May, SIRA named Dent as its new chief executive – replacing Carmel Donnelly, who will become chair of the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal.
Officially joining SIRA this month, Dent holds a Master of Business Administration from the Australian Institute of Business and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He also has a graduate certificate in professional legal studies from Griffith University.
He has a proven track record in senior executive roles across the government, the public sector, and non-profit organisations. Before joining SIRA, he was the CEO of NSW Trustee and Guardian since January 2018, carrying out its legislative functions and serving as the commissioner of dormant funds.

Dent's senior management roles over the years include director for government and public sector advisory at Ernst & Young, commissioner at NSW State Emergency Service, and state manager emergency services at Australian Red Cross (Victoria).
In addition to being SIRA's CEO, Dent is also a member of the SIRA Board in an ex-officio capacity.
SIRA chair Trevor Matthews previously commented: “Adam Dent brings extensive leadership experience across public, private, and not-for-profit organisations. Having spent much of his career focussed on helping people who are vulnerable or experiencing difficult times, Adam is a great fit for SIRA.”
