Bunbury City Council has agreed to reviewed insurance services that it is hoped will bring significant savings to the city’s finances.
The move reflects the city’s focus on identifying savings to help keep it on the right financial track with its financial position remaining strong as it reported earnings $887,000 greater than the year-to-date budgeted figures.
The reviewed insurance services will bring the city a cost reduction of $414,000 as compared to the premiums it paid in 2016-17, Burnbury Mail reported.
The identified savings come as the council adopted its fees and charges for 2017-18, with the overall increase kept to just 1.3%.
“Keeping this figure as low as possible is very pleasing, as are a number of initiatives that give our community more choice when it comes to such things as memberships at the South West Sports Centre, street trading licences and even mobile bin cleaning,” said Mayor Gary Brennan.
“Many of our services will not experience a price rise at all, such as waste charges, the hiring of spaces at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries and also charges relating to the use of some public sporting facilities.”
The council’s budget process for the FY2017-18 is also ongoing, with its adoption set for July, the report said.
