Perth’s northern suburbs suffered the most damage due to the state’s wet and wild winter, according to insurer RAC.
An analysis of storm-related insurance claims throughout June, July, and August saw Ballajura taking the unenviable title of Perth’s “stormiest suburb” during that period, with Ballajura residents lodging 174 claims with RAC.
Six of RAC’s top 10 suburbs with the most storm-related claims throughout winter were from Perth’s northern suburbs and only four were from south of the river, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Claiming the second spot was Morley, with 145 claims, followed by Dianella (119), Marangaroo (108), and Waikiki (99) in the top five.
The RAC data also revealed that storm damage in WA during the state’s winter months was up by 52%, to 7,434 claims, compared to the same period last year. Many of the claims were due to August’s record rainfall, which resulted to 2,594 claims lodged over the 31-period alone.
“This winter RAC paid out more than $12m in claims from members who had incurred storm damage, which is an increase of about $4m compared to last year,” said Glen Walker, RAC home claims manager.
Completing the top 10 list were Warnbro, with 96 claims, Canning Vale, 93, Port Kennedy, 88, Woodvale, 81, and Ocean Reef, 78, SMH reported.
