RAA announces 2017/18 safety grant recipients

Auto insurer RAA has announced the grant applicants who have received funding, valued between $572 up to almost $9,000, to support their community-safety projects.
 
“RAA’s Regional Safety Grants program has again supported a diverse range of sporting clubs, schools, and community groups across the state from Port Lincoln to Compton, near Mt Gambier,’’ said Shaun Ryan, RAA Insurance spokesman. “The total grant pool of just over $50,000 has been distributed between 12 worthy projects around the state, which aim to improve the safety of rural South Australians.”
 
The recipients of the RAA Regional Safety Grants 2017/18 include the Stirling North CFS brigade for its new training compound; Pine Point Progress Association for its bushfire-fighting trailer; Port Elliot Surf Life Saving Club for the purchase of a new trailer for its inflatable rescue boat; Wudinna & Districts Road Safety Committee for the purchase of a solar panel for its speed safety sign; and Kadina Memorial School to provide safety equipment and clothing for its primary-school crossing monitors.
 
Also getting a funding boost from RAA were:
  • Alford CFS for the purchase of a 22,500-litre rainwater tank to enable the drawing of water if the mains supply fails during an emergency
  • Brinkworth Primary School for the purchase of a 60m fire hose and stand pipe for CFS use during an emergency
  • Compton CFS for the purchase of a defibrillator and training of crew for use during emergencies
  • Goolwa SLSC for the purchase of warning siren, public address system and replacement of solar panels that power hand-held radios
  • Littlehampton CFS to acquire hands-free LED torches that attach to volunteers’ helmets and breathing apparatus and LED scene lighting for use during road-emergency rescues
  • Mount Pleasant CFS for the purchase of hydraulic metal cutters to rescue people trapped in damaged vehicles
  • Riding for the Disabled Association, Port Lincoln Centre, for the purchase of a sprinkler system for the facilities to create a safe zone during bushfires
