Insurer QBE teamed up with the NSW Swifts for a charity game that aimed to raise awareness, and $60,000 in funds, to combat kids' cancer.

The QBE Goals for Good charity goal shootout, held during half time at the NSW Swifts vs Adelaide Thunderbirds game at the Quaycentre, saw QBE donating $100 for every goal scored to the Kids' Cancer Project, in support of Netball NSW Crazy Hair & Sock Day's fundraising goal of $60,000 for children’s cancer research.

Celine Khoury, Parramatta Auburn’s Under 14 State Age Team champion, took on the clock on Sunday for the fundraising initiative.

The insurer's charity arm, the QBE Foundation, will match the funds raised during the shootout, which will bring QBE's contribution to The Kids’ Cancer Project to more than $100,000 to date in 2018.

“The Swifts club and players have an incredible energy, which helps to bring attention to the important work The Kids’ Cancer Project is doing, especially through their investment into rare childhood cancer treatment research,” said Bettina Pidcock, QBE Foundation chair.

Owen Finegan, CEO of The Kids’ Cancer Project, said the charity games are not only fun, they also help “make more people aware that cancer kills more children in this country than any other disease, and that scientific research is the solution.”

QBE and the Swifts are celebrating their decade-long partnership this year, with the insurer expanding the relationship to support both the New South Wales State Age and New South Wales State Championship competitions.

This year also marks the second year of the QBE Foundation's multi-year partnership with The Kids' Cancer Project.
