Peak industry body welcomes new directors

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has welcomed three well-respected industry leaders at a recent board meeting in Sydney.

Joining the board were Vivek Bhatia, chief executive officer of QBE Insurance's Australian and New Zealand operations; Richard Feledy, managing director of Allianz Australia; and Sue Houghton, general manager of insurance at BT Financial Group.

Bhatia joined the ICA board after Patrick Regan's promotion to QBE Group CEO; while Feledy's appointment follows Niran Peiris' elevation to the board management of Allianz Group.

ICA CEO Rob Whelan said the “three highly credentialed industry figures'” wealth of experience in the general insurance sector would bring invaluable insights and guidance at a time when the sector was facing several key public inquiries.

Whelan also thanked Peiris and Regan for serving in the board.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Niran Peiris and Pat Regan for their service and contributions to the Insurance Council, and note they will continue to provide leadership in the industry in their new roles,” he said.
