As small businesses continue to face an uphill struggle against the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors, NRMA Insurance (NRMA) has teamed up with Survive & Thrive in a new video series to help small business owners increase their resilience.
The Survive & Thrive video series features business guru and entrepreneur Mark Bouris, who mentors small business owners and provides tools and advice to help businesses survive and thrive.
In an interview with NRMA, Bouris said the biggest challenge for small businesses over the past two years is that “they haven't been heard.”
“They've been whacked around like nothing else the last two years and need every bit of support, celebration, and empathy to make sure they bounce back even stronger,” Bouris said.
Therefore, small businesses will thrive if they become active and vocal in the local and international community.
“To thrive in today's world, you've got to get your story out there,” he said. “Be more honest and open with your communications. Share the heartbreak, shout the wins loudly and proudly. Do that, do it prolifically, and that's the most important thing you can do to help your business thrive in 2022.”

Bouris claimed that insurers also play a role in helping Australian small business owners by ensuring they can “play defensively” with coverage against things that could put their business out of action.
He offered advice to business owners, stating: “Ask yourself, what is the most likely way that I'll go out of business in the next year? It's a tough question, but it's better to know the answer to it beforehand than have it realised for you. Prepare for the worst outcomes, actually plan for them to happen, and take every action to mitigate them.”
Season one of the Survive & Thrive video series is now available on Bouris' YouTube channel.
Named by Brand Finance Australia as the strongest insurance brand in Australia for 2022, NRMA has been entering strategic partnerships with big names across the country over the past few months. This month, aside from collaborating with Bouris, NRMA teamed up with Google Maps to launch a world-first initiative for boat owners.
