NRMA Insurance (NRMA), backed by Insurance Australia Group (IAG) and named the strongest insurance brand in the country for 2022 by Brand Finance Australia, has launched this year's bus safety program to teach children how to stay safe when travelling to and from school.
Throughout February and March, NRMA will visit towns in the Central West and Riverina regions – including Wagga Wagga, Narrandera, Young, Forbes, Parkes, and Cowra – to teach kindergarten-aged children and their parents about bus and road safety issues. It will include classroom discussions, presentations, and an educational bus ride.
NRMA's bus safety program started over 16-years-ago to increase children's confidence and ensure the safety of their trips to and from school. This year's program aims to reach more than 1,500 students at 40 schools across six regional NSW areas.
With children going back to school, NRMA proprietors Christine Hillis and Sarah Wardman highlighted the significance of informing young students about bus safety, particularly regional students.
“NRMA Insurance, with NSW Police and local bus companies, [has] proudly supported this successful program for over a decade, with children carrying the skills and lessons throughout their schooling journey,” Wardman said.
Hillis added: “It's been fantastic to receive feedback from parents that their Kindy students who have been on the bus with us are showing more confidence in understanding the potential dangers when travelling in a vehicle or crossing the road.”
The bus safety program aligns with Bus Safety Week, which runs from February 21 to 27, to raise awareness for all road users on how to stay safe around buses and reduce injuries and fatalities.
