“Industry awards allow us to highlight and celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations within our industry,” said Jenny Bax (pictured above), CEO of the Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC). “They showcase innovation and passion for success and are a cause to celebrate.”
Bax was answering questions from IB about the upcoming 2023 Insurance Business Australia Awards. UAC is sponsoring the event as the premium partner. The awards are taking place on September 15 but the closing date for awards nominations is only a couple of weeks away: May 12.
The online nomination process is easy and free. Click here to nominate.
This year, IB is seeking nominations for awards across 25 industry categories. Different categories are open to brokers, brokerages, insurers, underwriting agencies, BDMs, claims teams, individuals or service providers. UAC is sponsoring two of the awards: the Underwriting Agency and the Underwriting Agency BDM of the Year awards.
Bax – who is UAC’s first ever CEO after general manager William Legge stepped down last year – is one of the awards’ judges. She said leadership skills are key for entrants in the Underwriting Agency of the Year award.
“Strong and positive leadership that drives a positive culture,” she said. “A business that is full of passionate people who are innovative and nimble in their approach to products and technology.”
For the BDM award that’s also sponsored by her organisation, Bax, who has three decades of industry experience, listed a range of positive attributes that are important for a BDM to be competitive in this category.
“Important qualities that come to mind for me include curiosity and inquisitiveness, ability to adapt to changing environments, strong negotiation and persuasion skills and the desire to drive mutually beneficial outcomes,” she said.
This exciting awards event honours the industry’s leading insurance professionals from across the country. Brokers and brokerages, insurers and insurance companies, underwriters and agencies, claims handlers and service companies – all can enter the competition with a nomination.
All nominations must be submitted via the official Insurance Business Awards online portal on or before the final date of entry. A nomination is the first step before a process that culminates when an independent judging panel decides who receives an award.
The 15 judges – who are listed here – are selected for their reputation as respected industry figures. Each judge reviews awardee submissions and allocates a score for each. The highest scorer in each category is the winner and receives their award on the big night of nights in September.
The 2023 Awards on September 15, 2023 will be an in-person black-tie gala evening at one of Sydney’s most historic venues: The Fullerton Hotel in Martin Place.
The National Trust regards this Italian Renaissance Palazzo style building as “one of Australia’s most beautiful.” The hotel is the former General Post Office (GPO) and it was constructed on top of the Tank stream, the water supply for the early Sydney settlement.
Much of it was built in stages from 1865 to 1891 by colonial architect, James Barnet, but it continued to be enlarged until the 1940s.
According to the National Trust, the building’s developers aimed to make it “the most outstanding in the Southern Hemisphere.”
This is a great opportunity to acknowledge outstanding achievements and hard work during another year of challenges and opportunities.
We encourage you to nominate your team, company, an exceptional colleague - even yourself!
IB would like to offer a special thanks to the 2023 Awards Premium Partner, the Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC). A big ‘thank you’ also goes to the awards sponsors: AAMC, AXA XL, CHU Underwriting Agencies, Innovation Group, QBE and Wilbur for supporting this event and encouraging insurance excellence.
“It’s been fantastic, I’ve had a wonderful time,” said Kimberley Jonsson, CEO of CHU during last year’s awards event. “It’s good to see everyone in person.”
CHU are sponsoring again this year. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
