The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) has opened registrations for its 2025 Convention, which will take place Oct. 19-21 at RACV Royal Pines on the Gold Coast.
This year’s event, themed “Shaping Change,” aims to address key challenges and transformations within the insurance broking sector.
The convention will bring together brokers, industry partners, suppliers, regulators, and other stakeholders to examine trends shaping the profession and the broader insurance market in Australia.
Lynette Walsh, chair of the NIBA 2025 Convention Committee, said the event offers a platform for brokers to discuss industry developments and strengthen their professional networks.
“The NIBA Convention is more than just an event; it’s an unmissable opportunity for brokers to connect, learn, and be inspired. The NIBA Convention continues to deliver year on year through a carefully curated experience that combines insightful content, networking, and personal and professional development,” she said.
The convention will include presentations from industry leaders, discussions on regulatory changes, and sessions exploring new challenges in insurance. Networking events and industry recognition will also feature prominently over the two and a half days.
Recently appointed NIBA president Nick Cook highlighted the relevance of this year’s theme given the evolving market conditions.
“With increasing climate related risks, continuing regulatory shifts, and evolving consumer expectations, this year’s theme is extremely relevant for our profession. Brokers must remain at the forefront of our industry’s transformation, playing a critical role as trusted partners for their clients and communities, ensuring that Australians continue to thrive,” he said.
The convention will also recognise outstanding contributions to the profession, with the announcement of the 2025 Broker of the Year and Young Broker of the Year awards. Winners will be revealed at the Gala Dinner and Awards Night.
“Whether you’re from a small independent brokerage, a large international firm, or part of a cluster group, the NIBA Convention brings the breadth and diversity of the broking community and the wider insurance industry together under one roof,” said NIBA CEO Richard Klipin.
Ahead of the convention, NIBA has launched its 2025 Broker of the Year and Young Broker of the Year awards. Nominations closed on March 14, with winners to be selected through a multi-stage process.
The Broker of the Year award, sponsored by CGU, honours experienced professionals who demonstrate high standards of client service and leadership in the industry. Matthew Bates of Bell Partners Insurance won last year’s award.
The Young Broker of the Year award, sponsored by Vero, acknowledges brokers under the age of 35 who are making an impact on the profession. In 2024, Emily-Rose Srbinovska of Austbrokers Canberra received the award.
The selection process will identify five regional winners from New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, South Australia/Northern Territory, Victoria/Tasmania, and Western Australia. These winners will be announced during the 2025 NIBA Gala Lunches in July before moving forward to the national competition.
