NIBA has announced the finalists that will compete for the Student of the Year award at its annual convention to be held in Melbourne in September.
The third annual Student of the Year award, sponsored by
QBE, aims to recognise brokers who have excelled in their Diploma of Insurance Broking studies at NIBA College.
Three finalists have been named for the award: Jeremy Thornton from Complete Risk Solutions (IAA Mid North Coast) based in Taree, NSW, Jessica Cunningham from Robert K. Green & Associates based in Croydon, VIC, and Jessica Knight from Knightcorp Insurance Brokers based in Claremont, WA.
To be eligible for a nomination, students must achieve the highest mark in their month of completing the course and NIBA professional development executive, Linda Evans, said it is important to recognise the best of the best in broker education.
"Raising the professionalism of brokers is central to NIBA's objectives and being able to recognise our highest academic achievers is very important,” Evans said.
“Well educated brokers are always likely to enjoy successful careers as brokers and we hope that by recognising the efforts of our top students, we will inspire others to really commit to their studies, in turn helping to lift the professionalism across the entire broking profession.”
Colin Fagen, CEO of QBE Australia and New Zealand, said that his company are proud to sponsor an award which recognises broker education as it is an important facet of development for the industry.
“We’re excited to be supporting the Student of the Year Award for the third time and continuing our commitment to building a strong future for the insurance industry,” Fagen said.
“We know we work in a highly specialised industry and believe its success is built on the depth of our talent and our ability to attract new entrants and develop their skills.
"It’s been fantastic to see the professional development opportunities this award has created over the last few years and we’re proud to be making it possible to recognise and reward our next generation of brokers.”
The winner will take home a $1000 cash prize, courtesy of QBE, as well as a place on QBE’s eQuip program with the finalists set to be flown to Sydney for a personal development day at QBE headquarters.
