More than 1.5 million Australians have already received their refund of up to $120 after last year’s revamp of NSW’s compulsory third-party car insurance (CTP) scheme, but there are still “millions to be claimed” before the September deadline.
NSW motorists previously paid the highest CTP premiums in the country at an average of $710, but with the reforms to the CTP scheme, premiums have been reduced by up to $172 a year.
Of the roughly $300 million in green slip refunds available to an estimated four million NSW vehicle owners with policies starting before December 01, 2017, the state government has handed back more than $88 million to 1.55 million vehicle owners.
“There is still millions of dollars left to be claimed,” Finance Minister Victor Dominello told news.com.au. “Eligible motorists have until September 30 to pocket their refund through Service NSW, which is simple and easy. The new CTP scheme is delivering a big win for motorists through lower premiums, greater protections for those injured on the road, and refunds on premiums paid during 2017.” NSW motorists can claim their refund by simply visiting the Service NSW website.
