The Valerie Baker Memorial Award has announced that applications are now open and a major new sponsor has come on board with a bumper prize package.

The award, which recognises excellence in professional practice in the general insurance industry intermediary sector, will see AIMS join Steadfast and GoldSeal as sponsors of the prize.

The lucky winner will be whisked off to London for an all-expenses-paid trip, including business class air fares and accommodation.

The prize also includes a tour of Lloyd’s of London alongside a number of educational experiences and meetings in the London market and a short course at the Chartered Insurance Institute or similar.

Last year’s winner, Julie Pernecker of All Parks Insurance, shared her experience having been named the winner at the Steadfast Convention held in Adelaide earlier this year.

“Leading up to my trip to London I was a bag of mixed emotions,” Pernecker said.

“Once exposed to the London Market the fears I had were soon replaced with excitement and thoughts of all the opportunities the London Market has to offer.

“I had been introduced to a whole new world and level of insurance.

“After having the opportunity to sit ‘on the box’ with a few syndicates my mind was working overtime on the great opportunities this could mean for our business,” Pernecker continued.

“The experience of all the people I was put in contact with thanks to the Valerie Baker Award has offered me a wealth of knowledge and opportunities. I cannot wait to see where this takes me in the future.”

The award will be judged by an all-star line-up led by chairperson Sheila Baker, managing director of GoldSeal, Chris Mackinnon, general representative of Lloyd’s Australia, Martin McAvenna, representing the AIMS Group, and Gary Seymour, representing Steadfast.

To be eligible, entrants must be a resident in Australia and be currently employed by or the principle of a general insurance intermediary and applications close on 20 December.
