Sparke Helmore has recently added seasoned lawyer Marie-Clare Elder to its partner roster.
In a LinkedIn post published last week, Elder revealed that she joined Sparke Helmore as a partner.
With a 19-year career in law, Elder has garnered extensive experience as a solicitor, overseeing in-house teams in both Australia and the UK. Notably, she held the position of general counsel in the legal department at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust during her tenure in London. Upon her return to Australia, she assumed the role of managing the eastern states legal team at Medical Insurance Group Australia.
Elder's background as a former clinical nurse specialist in intensive care adds a unique dimension to her legal practice, allowing her to draw upon her medical knowledge when navigating intricate legal matters.
Beyond her legal endeavours, Elder has actively contributed to the community. In 2018, she secured a position on the board of The Banksia Project, followed by another appointment to the board of Waves of Wellness in 2020. Both entities are charities with a dedicated focus on mental wellness.
Elder's involvement extends into the academic sphere. She has shared her insights as a lecturer at the University of Oxford's Medical School in the UK and is a regular presenter at specialised medical and legal conferences across Australia.
Aside from welcoming a new partner, Sparke Helmore has secured notable rankings in the Chambers Asia-Pacific 2024 Guide (Chambers) across various categories:
In the “government individual lawyer” category, Alexandra Wedutenko achieved a Band 2 ranking, while Ben Dube secured a Band 4 ranking. Michelle Taylor received recognition in Band 2 within the shipping “individual lawyer” category.
Chambers' assessments, widely respected within the legal industry and by clients, serve as benchmarks for identifying top-performing law firms on a global scale.
