CGU has announced a naming rights sponsorship of Move in May, an Australian-first fun run designed to promote equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) community.
Founded by Stand Up Events, a non-profit which aims to address the under -representation of the LGBTQI community in sport, Move in May will be held in Melbourne on May 22 and is expected to attract more than 5,000 participants.
Donna Walker, EGM of broker business at
IAG Commercial Insurance, said that its CGU brand was proud to be able to sponsor such an important event.
“Stand Up Events is a great not-for-profit organisation, providing grassroots events and education programs to the community to help raise awareness of the inequality that exists within Australian sporting culture,” Walker said.
“Sport is the backbone of our national identity and events such as Move in May will help the LGBTIQ gain greater acceptance in our communities.
“CGU and our parent company IAG recognise and support diversity in all of its forms. We are proud to be the naming rights sponsor of Move in May and support an organisation that proactively encourages inclusiveness in business and the community.”
Founder of Stand Up Events, Angie Greene, spoke of her excitement of working alongside CGU and the importance of Move in May for Australian society.
"Move in May is an annual fun run that supports and coincides with International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT - May 17th) and is an event for everyone that believes in equality - rainbow or otherwise,” she said.
“Move in May is a creative, fun and powerful platform to show the world that Australia is an inclusive society.”
