HDI-Gerling has continued its expansion in Australia with a new hire for its recently opened Melbourne office.
The German insurer
announced the opening of the Melbourne branch of the business in early February and has hired Tom Hughes to fill the role of marine underwriting manager.
Stefan Feldmann, managing director of HDI-Gerling in Australasia, praised the Hughes hire as the company continues to increase its presence in the Australasian market.
“We are very excited to have Tom come on board with HDI-Gerling.
“With his international experience we are further strengthening our offering in Marine Cargo and expanding our presence in Melbourne,” Feldmann said.
Hughes has more than a decade of experience in marine underwriting, with his career starting at Lloyd’s of London before his move to Australia three years ago.
