A specialist insurer has launched an online compliance tool in an effort to help business owners who are still getting to grips with recent legislative changes.
NTI announced the new resource yesterday afternoon and confirmed the move is a response to the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) reforms, effective October 01, 2018.
Part of the Heavy Vehicle National Law, CoR requires all parties within the supply chain to have a shared responsibility for safety on the road – it applies across Australia, with the exception of WA and NT.
Adam Gibson, NTI’s transport and logistics risk engineer, said the online assessment gives organisations the ability to benchmark their performance and identify potential risk areas.
“In simplest terms, it’s a ‘readiness’ assessment,” he explained. “We’re breaking down what can seem like an overwhelming, complex, issue to help businesses see where their compliance gaps are and how to navigate them.”
According to Gibson, any company across transport operations, logistics, marine or mobile plant and equipment can benefit from the templates and checklists.
“We took a highly collaborative approach to developing our Chain of Responsibility Health Check to ensure we captured a holistic view of the current industry environment, and where it needs to be as a result of the legislative reforms,” he said.
Gibson also confirmed that NTI is continuing to build resources “to assist specific segments in the transport and logistics industry” – such as consignors and small businesses with three trucks or less.
Christopher Hogarty, NTI’s chief customer officer, also commented on the new tool and said it serves as proof that the insurer cares about more than just collecting premiums.
“We’re not merely in the business of providing insurance,” he said. “We also want to provide assurances for the transport and logistics industry and their livelihood.”
Hogarty also encouraged all Australians – from road users to operations managers and load handlers to business owners – to explore the new offering.
“We’re here to help organisations benchmark themselves within the transport and logistics industry and provide tools and solutions to progress their pathway to compliance,” he said.
