Several insurance companies have been recognised as leading employers of graduates in Australia for 2022, compiled by the Australian Financial Review (AFR).
AFR put together this year's top 100 graduate employers in Australia, with financial services companies offering insurance and connected services being included in the top 10, such as Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ), Westpac Group (Westpac), PwC, KPMG, EY, National Australia Bank (NAB), and Suncorp Group (Suncorp).
Ranked first, Australian multinational banking and financial services company ANZ had a 19.79% engagement rate. In 2021, its graduate intake totalled 86, and in 2022, its graduate intake has increased to 113 in Australia and 24 in New Zealand so far, in disciplines ranging from technology to institutional, retail and commercial, talent and culture, risk, data, finance, and agriculture. The male/female ratios of these new employees were 51/62 in Australia and 12/12 in New Zealand.
Following ANZ is financial services giant Westpac, which ranked fourth with a 13.22% engagement rate. Westpac had 110 graduates in 2021 and 120 in 2022 so far. Moreover, it hired people from all disciplines, with a gender ratio of 41% male and 59% female.
Fifth in the top 10 is PwC, boasting an 11.73% engagement rate, with 856 graduates in 2021 and a prediction of 900 for 2022. Like ANZ, it hired people from all disciplines, consisting of 47% male and 53% female.
Another financial services company included in the top 10 is KPMG, ranked sixth, boasting a 10.3% engagement rate with over 600 graduate intakes in 2021 and over 900 in 2022. It also hired from all disciplines, consisting of 49% male and 51% female.
EY ranked eighth with a 9.19% engagement rate, with 444 graduates in 2021 and 898 in 2022 so far – from finance, accounting, commerce, business, HR, psychology, IT, computer science, engineering, mathematics, science, arts, law, economics, education, and design. Last year's male/female ratio was 52% male and 48% female, while this year's ratio was 48% male and 52% female.
NAB, ranked ninth, with a 9.04% engagement rate. It has 70 graduate intakes last year and 94 so far this year, hiring from all disciplines, with a male/female ratio of 50:50.
Ranked 10th is insurance giant Suncorp, boasting a 7.12% engagement rate, with 55 graduate intakes last year and 85% so far this year. Like NAB, it focused on hiring from all disciplines, with 47% male and 53% female.
Commenting on Suncorp being one of the top 10 graduate employers in Australia, group executive people, culture, & advocacy Fiona Thompson said graduates were increasingly choosing companies whose values matched their own.
