Insurance Business Australia (IB) has released the winners of the Elite women 2023 special report – female professionals in the Australian insurance industry who have achieved outstanding career milestones and have contributed to the industry.
Emma Hosking, manager of government partnerships at Gallagher Bassett (GB), is one of this year's winners. She is known among her peers for building relationships and demonstrating integrity and credibility.
In an interview with IB, Hosking said she has always wanted to work with people in a frontline service role.
“As is often the case in our industry, I happened upon the personal injury sector, thanks to a job opportunity presented through a [university] mate,” she said. “After several years serving in more conservative government roles, I transitioned to operations and sales in a commercial organisation.
“Fortuitously, I chose to take this journey with GB. Its strong culture and the brilliant team I work with have supported me in taking risks and embracing development opportunities beyond my comfort zone.”
As the manager of government partnerships, Hosking has worked with a diverse range of government clients and customer bases. She thrives in a robust team environment and actively supports other professionals.
“I initially hesitated at the idea of a traditional sales role,” she told IB. “However, I find myself comfortably building trusted relationships and using an evidence-based approach to practically demonstrate our value to our customers. It's not just about what we achieve, but also how we do it.
“Developing and maintaining strong connections within our business is essential to understanding and representing our value proposition effectively. It allows us to design and align our product and service solutions to meet client needs collaboratively.”
