Alleged inconsistencies in a break-in report have prompted detectives to mount a $700,000 fraud case against four men.
A man filed a police report in March that his home had been burgled, with more than $700,000 worth of items stolen.
Joondalup detectives have allegedly found inconsistencies in the man’s report, however, as well as in similar claims made with five insurance companies, including Insurance Australia and RAC WA,
The West Australian reported.
Also caught up in the charge were three others – family members and other people linked to the man – who allegedly lodged insurance claims related to other incidents.
After a review of the insurance claims and the linked reports, multiple search warrants were executed by the detectives last month at various locations linked to the men. They resulted in the seizure of numerous items related to the claims, the report said.
Two men from Iluka, aged 32 and 25, have been charged with several counts of fraud and attempted fraud. A 24-year-old man from Ocean Reef has been charged with one count of fraud and three counts of attempted fraud; while a 46-year-old man from Morley has been charged with two counts of fraud and three counts of attempted fraud.
The man from Ocean Reef is set to appear at Joondalup Magistrate’s Court on August 11, while the three others are due to face the court on June 07, the report said.
