The Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ) and the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (
ANZIIF) have announced this year’s recipient of the ICNZ &
ANZIIF Scholarship.
Caleb Walker, sales specialist team leader at AA Insurance, has been awarded the $10,000 international study scholarship that will allow him to attend an international insurance conference for enhancing his insurance knowledge.
Walker won for his essay on the topic: “Is the insurance industry doing enough to manage its reputation and what would it take for the public to regard insurance as a profession?”
“I feel quite honoured to have won this award,” said Walker. “To be able to network at an overseas insurance conference is an amazing opportunity for me to learn about insurance beyond my current role and I can’t wait to gain insights into the overseas industry that I can share back in New Zealand.”
Prue Willsford, CEO of ANZIIF and panel judge, said Walker’s submission on managing the reputation of insurance “was extremely well received by the judges and showed fresh insights into the age-old reputational issues the industry faces.”
“His focus on reputation and trust within a digital world demonstrated the importance of appealing to the younger consumer generation,” he added.
Tim Grafton, ICNZ CEO and panel judge, lauded Walker on his win, saying his essay “stood out as being particularly well-thought-out and his recommendations to the New Zealand industry were positive and practical ideas the industry can adopt today.”
The ICNZ & ANZIIF Scholarship is granted annually to outstanding insurance professionals who show the potential to become industry leaders, and to strengthen and develop the capabilities of the NZ insurance industry.
