Insurance and Care NSW (icare) chairman Michael Carapiet is leaving the workers’ compensation insurer on September 25.

Citing an internal staff memo released last night (September 08), The Australian said making an exit as well is deputy chairman Gavin Bell. According to the publication, Carapiet will be succeeded by former New South Wales Labor leader John Robertson.

Carapiet’s resignation comes hot on the heels of Beth Uehling’s departure, which was announced on September 04. Uehling was icare’s group executive for personal injury.

In August, John Nagle resigned as managing director & chief executive and was replaced by Don Ferguson. Also, board member Mark Lennon left his non-executive director post in July.

As of this writing, icare has not issued an update on its leadership roster.

UPDATE:

In a subsequent statement today, icare said: “Mr Carapiet advised the NSW Government in late 2019, and the icare board at the beginning of 2020 of his intention to retire from the icare board and Mr Bell did likewise. The icare board renewal process was initiated in May.

“The change will allow the incoming chair to lead the board in the search, selection, and appointment of the new CEO of icare. Mr Bell has retired already and Mr Carapiet will be doing so after the finalisation of icare’s 2019-20 financial accounts.”

Thanking the duo for their years of outstanding service, icare also welcomed Robertson’s appointment. The insurer added that it looks forward to working with the new chairman to continue driving better outcomes for customers.
