The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) will host one-on-one consultations as well as an insurance forum for policyholders impacted by the February monsoonal deluge that severely affected many parts of Townsville.
The Townsville forum will be held on July 12, from 6pm, five months after the monsoon rain event was declared a catastrophe by ICA; while the one-on-one consultations will be convened on July 12 and 13, from 9am, to allow policyholders to discuss their individual claims with their insurer or ICA disaster-recovery experts.
“The consultations and forum are an opportunity for insurers and the ICA to speak directly to customers about their personal circumstances and claim progress,” ICA CEO Rob Whelan said.
Insurers have received 29,950 claims, with losses estimated at $1.24 billion. More than 42% of home building claims, 55% of contents claims, and 76% of motor claims have been closed by insurers.
The forum will also be attended by representatives from Queensland Legal Aid and the Australian Financial Complaints Authority.
The forum and consultations are only for policyholders. Registration is essential.
