The
Insurance Council of Australia has announced that it has appointed
Anthony Day to its board of directors.
Day, currently the CEO of commercial insurance at
Suncorp, is a well-known figure in the Australian insurance industry and was appointed at a board meeting held in Sydney last week.
President of the ICA, Andy Cornish, said that Day’s three decades of industry experience and knowledge will greatly benefit the organisation moving forward.
“Mr Day brings three decades of experience in the general insurance industry to the ICA,” Cornish said.
“His fellow Directors look forward to benefitting from his insights and expertise as we seek to chart a path ahead for the sector.”
Cornish continued that as the ICA moves through 2016, insurers will face growing challenges and Day’s perspective will be valuable to the organisation.
“With insurers facing growing challenges from such issues as extreme weather events, disclosure and affordability, Mr Day will bring valuable perspectives to Board discussions and deliberations.”
Day has been CEO of the commercial insurance arm of Suncorp since October 2009, following a year at the businesses as executive general manager – intermediated distribution.
Prior to his time with Suncorp, Day was general manager of general insurance for
Zurich after holding various positions with the company and with
Chubb.
Day’s appointment brings the ICA board to 10 members as leaders from

Munich Re, Hollard and others make up the board.
