Insurance Australia Group (IAG) has announced Robert Cutler for the role of group general counsel, effective starting April 4, 2024.
This strategic move, announced by IAG’s chief executive officer and managing director, Nick Hawkins, aims to solidify the company’s legal and governance framework.
Bringing a wealth of experience to IAG, Cutler’s professional journey spans over three decades at Clayton Utz, a law firm in Australia. His tenure there culminated in a six-year leadership stint as chief executive partner, alongside meaningful involvement on the firm’s board.
Cutler’s dedication to community service is underscored by his directorship at the Clayton Utz Foundation, a charitable entity.

In discussing Cutler’s appointment, Hawkins emphasised the value he is expected to add to the executive team and to IAG as a whole.
“I welcome the contribution that Robert will make to our leadership team and IAG. In addition to his legal career, he has extensive governance experience as a member of various boards and has advised on regulatory and risk management matters for private and public organisations,” he said.
The announcement follows the appointment of IAG’s executive general manager of technology and transformation in the Intermediated Insurance Australia (IIA) division.
