Honan Insurance has collaborated with design blog Design Files to launch the inaugural The Design Files Kids Art Awards, an online exhibition and awards program celebrating kids' unique creativity.
The new initiative will support Children's Ground, a non-for-profit charity supporting First Nations communities. It will award prizes to five young Australian artists who create the best A4-sized, two-dimensional artwork in any medium inspired by the theme ‘Australia’.
Commenting on the launch, The Design Files founder and editor Lucy Feagins said: “After a hugely challenging year, we've created The Design Files Kids Art Awards Program, in partnership with Honan, as a joyful, inclusive national awards program that we hope will be an inspiring creative outlet for families and kids across Australia.
“It's super easy to get involved, and the prizes are huge! We also feel very lucky to have an opportunity to use this program to raise funds and awareness for Children's Ground, an indigenous-led children's charity we have long admired.”
The awards program is open to all Australian children up to 16 years old. An expert panel of Australian artists – including well-known Australian artist Ken Done, award-winning illustrator and artist Beci Orpin, and artist and Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay/Gummaroi man Reko Rennie – will choose the five winners. Each winner will receive a $2,000 cash prize.
Honan CEO Andrew Fluitsma commented: “As a company founded in Melbourne, first and foremost, Australia is our home. Our foundation. Our community. Our family. Given the nature of our business, the last 12 months, and of course, what's happening now in NSW and QLD, we are delighted to be a part of an initiative that supports the community in a different way, one that can bring some joy. We are excited to see the imagination and inspiration this wonderful activity uncovers.”
