Gallagher's Melbourne team got doused with a bucket of icy water to raise funds for the fight against motor neurone disease (MND), a neurodegenerative disorder that causes a progressive weakness of many of the muscles and finally death.

MND has no cure or effective treatment, and every day at least two Australians are diagnosed with the disease and at least two die.

Gallagher Melbourne’s Ice Bucket Challenge, held as part of Gallagher's corporate giving for its 90th anniversary in business, took place during the official FightMND Big Freeze 4 date, on a bracing 12⁰C day, raising a total of $3,450 for FightMND.

One challenger, Adele May, Gallagher's insolvency and turnaround regional manager for VIC/TAS/SA/NT, even got drenched while dressed as a penguin, as she fulfilled the promise of wearing the suit if her team raised more than $500 for FightMND. Other participants included Dean Carl, Sean Gallagher, Richard Haig, Emma Keegan, Paul O’Brien, and Ben Robinson.

Tim Plummer, the insolvency account manager who manned the bucket during the May's drenching, has been nominated for next year's Ice Bucket Challenge team.

Following on, Sydney senior executives Sarah Lyons, Anthony Niardone, Jurgen Rammesmayer, Lisbeth Rees, and Steve White have volunteered for an icy soaking for the Sydney fundraising effort on July 5.
