Claims management provider Gallagher Bassett (GB) has been appointed as the sole service provider to manage the Norfolk Island Workers’ Compensation Scheme, following an open tender process facilitated by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Communications.
Under the arrangement, GB will be responsible for assessing and managing claims for compensation, supporting recovery and return to work strategies for Norfolk Islanders, and collecting membership fees.
In a statement, GB said that the appointment expands its portfolio within its self-insurance unit, and sees it move into “one of the world’s most pristine locations.”
“With extensive experience in workers’ compensation, GB is well-positioned to proactively manage claims in a unique remote location,” said GB. “The hand-over process is expected to commence shortly, and services are anticipated to begin on September 01, 2020.”
“GB is honoured to be named the new service provider for the Norfolk Island Workers’ Compensation Scheme,” said John McNamara, chief executive officer of GB-Australia. “We look forward to a close collaboration with the Australian Government, Norfolk Island Regional Council, Norfolk Island employers, and the community to partner in continuously improving this service for Norfolk Islanders.”
