Gallagher Bassett’s (GB) Victorian workers’ compensation team has launched an online portal to support its injured workers and employers.
The company boasts that users can “easily access” helpful claim information and tools and upload documents relating to existing claims.
“We were looking at how we can support workers’ compensation claims and, from our experience and learnings, we learnt that a workers’ compensation claim can be quite hard to navigate. We were really motivated from a business point of view to do what it takes to make the process easier,” said Michelle Klobas (pictured), client services director at GB.
“What we did as a result of the experiences that we picked up from the market was we launched the online portal. It’s really there to support our injured workers and employers.A variety of claims and information can be supported by the GB portal which includes certificates of capacity, invoices, reimbursements and requests for treatment.”
The online portal provides a “streamlined approach” for injured workers and employers submitting claims information for existing claims, Klobas said. Because of the easy navigation and digitalised process, users are able to directly upload claims-related information and, therefore, “bypass” the need for multiple emails.
“What that means is by submitting the information via the portal, our claims professionals can process requests more quickly, which means faster treatment, decisions and payments,” she continued.
“It’s faster processing of documents, it’s faster treatment decisions for claims and faster payments and reimbursements & hellip; The portal allows it to be streamlined and ensures it goes to the right department at the right time, as quickly as possible.”
Klobas says the portal’s unique features are founded on the fact that it is website based. Users can bookmark it on their devices and access it whenever is most convenient for them.
“If your system is Apple, Android, laptop, desktop, PC – it remains really, really easy to access whether you’re at home or whether you’re out, wherever you are,” she explained.

“It’s tailored to the injured worker, so the process is simple and straightforward. They just put in their name and claim number and then upload it.”
Additionally, the portal is designed for use by both GB’s injured workers and their employers. Each stakeholder can pull all the data through the portal, Klobas explained, and, according to market feedback, the portal has been a success.
“We launched it last Wednesday and already we’ve been monitoring its uptake. We’ve had around 71 emails to date and we’ve already received positive feedback,” she said. “A couple of examples were that current weekly earnings were submitted, and we were able to make payment within 24 hours. We’ve had some great results already.”
