Brokerage giant Gallagher has announced the acquisition of a Brisbane based aviation focused broker. On its website, Aviation Insurance Australia described itself as the largest locally owned and independent aviation insurance broker in the country.
The firm’s specialities include aviation, helicopter and glider insurance. The media release said terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition was welcomed by Gallagher’s long serving US based president and CEO.
“I am delighted to welcome Ian and his associates to our growing, global company,” said J. Patrick Gallagher, Jr. (pictured above) from Chicago.
Ian Tait, another industry veteran, started his career in 1977 and established his firm in 1993. The release said Tait and his team will remain in their current location but under the direction of Paul Harvey, Gallagher’s managing director of specialisms in Australia.
“Aviation Insurance Australia is a well-respected broker that enhances our aviation capabilities and offers cross-selling opportunities in Australia,” said J. Patrick Gallagher, Jr.
Last month, Gallagher acquired Melbourne-based insurance brokerage Smart Insurance Services (Smart) as part of its ongoing expansion strategy.
Recent months have seen the global brokerage make numerous acquisitions. A company spokesperson said the firm has acquired seven companies in Australia in as many months. The Aviation Insurance deal brings that number up to eight.
