Why did you get into insurance?
Following my bachelor’s degree attained in sports administration, I was originally employed in the sporting industry. However sport happens primarily on the weekend, and I wanted my weekends back! I found a job with a sports insurance underwriting agency at aged 24, and have stayed in the industry ever since.
How would you sum up insurance brokers in three words?
Passionate, generous, ruthless
How would you change the industry?
The industry has a long way to go in unifying all the parties within it in a common cause or goal. The recent natural disasters have forced our hand, and some good work has started to provide a stronger voice, however it takes everyone involved to build the industry of insurance into one of a positive, community-sustaining brand with a reputation where everyone is proud to be a part of it.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
Walk in the direction of your fears.
If you were Prime Minister for one day, what would you do?
Build a vision for the country that is based on innovation and environmental design that can be sold and exported globally, and then develop a planning and infrastructure spending process that is long term and not based on government three-year terms.
If you could invite three people to dinner, dead or alive, and excluding family and friends, who would they be and why?
Hillary Clinton, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther-King. What a fascinating conversation that would be.
