Two men have been arrested in Sydney this week, accused of staging a number of car crashes across the city in order to make fraudulent insurance claims.
Detectives executed search warrants at two locations in Sydney’s inner-west, including a smash repair workshop, before taking the duo into custody.
Several other properties were also raided in Concord West, Greenacre, and Homebush West with detectives seizing a number of items relevant to the investigation.
According to law enforcement, the men were involved with fabricating crashes in order to lodge fraudulent claims against the compulsory third party or other insurance schemes.
Police also confirmed that a 28-year-old man was charged with a string of offences, including dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, conspiring to cheat and defraud, recruiting others to assist in carrying out criminal activity, and knowingly participating in a criminal group.
A second man was charged with conspiracy to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception and conspiring to cheat and defraud.
Both were granted conditional bail and are due to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday, September 10, 2018.
