You’ve come home from a long day at work, and you want nothing more than to enjoy a dip in your pool (if you are lucky enough to have one - if not, this story will definitely make you feel smug).

The last thing you expect to see is this:

But for one unlucky couple in America, this is exactly what they found. When Jessica Pedraza and her husband returned to their Florida home one Monday night, they were horrified to find their in-ground pool had lifted three feet above the ground thanks to a sinkhole.

The couple, who had the pool drained the day before, have been told fixing it will cost tens of thousands of dollars, and their insurance will not cover it.

Pedraza told Fox News that the insurer said “water below the surface of the ground […] which exerts pressure on […] a swimming pool or other structure” was in the exclusions section of her policy.
Apparently, the insurer offered her AUS $1,558, which is roughly the cost of sending out an engineer to determine the damage.
